Election Results 2024 Live: Early Trends Show Significant Gains for Indian Opposition Bloc, Crossing 200 Seats; NDA Set for Return to Power
According to early trends, the Indian Opposition Bloc has made significant gains compared to 2019, already surpassing the 200-seat mark. However, the NDA still appears poised for a return to power, having crossed the majority threshold.
Among the prominent candidates leading at this time are Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad and Rajeev Chandrasekhar in Thiruvananthapuram, who is ahead of Congress’s Shashi Tharoor. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading in Varanasi, while Akhilesh Yadav is ahead in Kannauj. The NDA is also performing well in Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal, states that could be crucial in helping the BJP achieve its target of 400 seats.
Postal ballots often prove to be decisive. If Narendra Modi returns to power, he will be the only PM after Jawaharlal Nehru to form a government for a third consecutive term. Voting took place over seven phases for 543 Lok Sabha seats, with the majority mark set at 272. Additionally, votes are being counted today for assembly elections in two states, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
